I’m back from Boston and I have to say that I fell in love with the city! My husband and I would totally move there if it was not so far from our friends and families! Boston folks are lucky to live in such a beautiful and peaceful city.
I was lodging at The Copley House and I strongly recommend it. It’s a lovely place renting small fully equipped appartments. The cheaper room was beautiful and fully functional for a couple. This might not be a 5 stars hotel (the toilet clogged once, the shower made a mess on the floor, the fridge was a little hard to close…) but it’s perfectly clean and the people are kind and helpful. This is very affordable and it’s well located in a pleasant neighborhood (two minutes walking to the Prudential tower).
We bought the city pass. It’s not too expensive and it let you visit 5 museums. My favorite was by far the Harvard Museum of Natural History. I really liked the view at the Skywalk too. It’s great if you wish to have a overall view of the city’s architecture and history. We went there at the end of the trip but we thought we should have done it at the beginning.
I visited 3 yarn stores (Robert is very patient):
- Windsor Buttons was great, it’s so sad it’s closing! It was carrying a great choice of yarn and buttons since 1936!
- I thought Newbury Yarns was correct, it carries a great variety of yarns brands including some I’ve never seen elsewhere.
- I LOVED Gather Here in Cambridge. This might be the greatest yarn store I ever visited (my husband agrees, and he’s starting to know a lot about yarn stores! And he really enjoyed the sofa!) The woman was very helpful and enthusiastic, the yarn choice was wonderful, the prices were very fair, the fabrics were beautiful too and it’s a very pretty place. And they have a fidelity card that I would totally enjoy if I was not living at 9 hours of bus!
Some people told me that Boston was a real maze because the streets are not forming blocks and the addresses are somehow random. I was warned so I had a map and I never got lost. If we had too, we would not have been shy to ask anyone for help since we found the people very pleasant. Everyone are smiling at each others and are very polite. The metro was not as complicated as I thought at first neither. We found it very effective, much more than Montreal metro. But we made fun about how noisy it is!
My only deception is that the trip was too short. I would have enjoyed it even better if I had stayed at least 4 complete days. But never mind, I’ll come back 🙂
