Lyrebird Socks

Description

Birds, the absolute aerial creatures that they are, are truly fascinating. The variety of their species, their beauty and their originality never cease to amaze me. The lyre birds, for example, have two long feathers resembling vertebras as a part of their tails. These socks have a similar pattern on the top of the feet, starting at the cuff and ending softly at the toes, so it was only appropriate to name them after their feathered inspiration.

Construction
These socks are worked from the cuff down. You’ll knit the cuff first, followed by the leg, both of which are worked in the round. Afterwards, the heel flap and heel turn are worked flat. Stitches are picked up along the edges of the flap to form the gusset, which is then worked in the round, followed by the foot and the toes. The lace stitch pattern is worked from the cuff to the toes, where cables are worked to close the pattern.
