Last Friday, my spouse who happens to be a guitarist was doing an outdoor show. I had done a good first week of work and I decided to accompagny him, even if it was in Trois-Rivières (1:30 away from Montreal) and even if he had to be there at 3PM to do the sound check (the show was at 7:30).

Murphy and his law came with us, giving us the coldest day of the winter. It’s been -26°C (-14.8°F) before the wind chill factor. We were feeling something like -35°C (-31°F) but – oh well! – we are Quebeckers! There have been a very motivated crowd of 300 or 400 people and the show went well, even if some ice was forming inside the saxophone and even if the band was playing with coats and gloves.

This being said, the real thing that motivated me even while looking at the weather forecast on that morning is that I spotted a yarn store on google maps at 5 minutes on foot from the stage. As soon as the sound check started, I went there. It was a very pretty store owned by a very kind young lady. It’s a small store but I found a lovely yarn called Capricorne from L’angélaine that is a goat farm in Bécancour. I like to visit small stores and to buy local products so I killed two birds with one stone. The yarn is a kidmohair blend and I bought two undyed skeins for some obvious reasons. And with these two skeins my blank page syndrom went away and I got back the energy these projects are giving me. When I came home that night, I found a post Canada paper in my letterbox – some more undyed yarn was waiting for my at the post office. Yay!

Guess what I did yesterday? I dyed the two skeins and 100g of a superwash/nylon sock yarn all in the same dyebath. It’s funny to see how the fibers absorb the dye differently!

And now I’ve got 10 000 projects for sock yarn. I know the two pounds will soon be all dyed.
