Back in July, my neighbor uproot the 50 years old lilac that was half in my backyard and half in his. It goes without saying, I was extremely angry and sad so I went to my LYS to cheer me up and came back with this yarn, Mini Maiden by Handmaiden, a luxurious blend of silk and wool. I started working on a pattern a few days later. I was trying hard to see the good side of things so I created this stitch pattern which is a reversible cable. I worked a few inches of the scarf and my attention went elsewhere. It went back and forth in the work in progress basket and in between my hands.
On February, I’ve seen an announcement for a knitting contest by Handmaiden fine yarns and I decided it was a good timing to finish it. From this time, it followed me everywhere.
Meanwhile, my old faithful dog became sick and left us way too soon. She passed away on Friday, March 22. It was the deadline for the contest… and I won.
Life goes on, with its cycles and with its bright and dark sides. This wrap followed me through a lot of emotions.
As soon as spring will be here to stay, I’ll plant a new lilac in my backyard. In the hole, I’ll place Baki’s ashes. I’ll be wearing my wrap. I’ll adopt a puppy as soon as I’m ready. Until then, I’m grieving with the impression that there is always more to see, more to live, more to love.
