Yarn Review: Lolo Did It Lolo’s Favorite

February 18, 2018

I just finished knitting my third project made in Lolo’s Favorite by Lolo Dit It. I’m a little sad that this project has come to an end, because I wish I could work with this yarn all day everyday. Yes, it’s that kind of yarn. The perfect kind. It is beautiful, soft, surprisingly sturdy and, as with every yarn by Lolo Did It, the colorways are seriously amazing. Lolo’s Favorite is a fingering weight yarn offered as a generous 100g / 430 yards skein. It’s a MCN blend (merino / cashmere / nylon) that you simply can’t go wrong with. Merino as the base fiber is pretty, sturdy and soft, the nylon adds even more sturdiness, while the cashmere makes it decadent!

I’ve been lucky to tried four colorways of this yarn, and two others by Lolo Dit It in another base (Everyday Sock, which is a more basic yarn but also great). I tried two colorways from the Signature colorways (highly variegated), one from the Barely There collection (variegated tonal colors with light speckles), and three tonal colors to complement them. I had so much pleasure knitting with them all!

If you like variegated colorways, there is something for you in Lauren’s Signature collection. She’s the best at dyeing flashy colors, mixing pink and yellow and neon green all in the same skein, but she also has something for those who’d rather pick a colorway with less contrast. My personnal favorite is Steel Magnolias, which I used to knit my second Cupcake Shawl, but I often get lost on her website, discovering each time a new colorway that inspire to me dozens of new ideas.

Pretty Young Thing is an impressive dyeing work! (Please excuse the cat tail)

The Barely There collection has been released recently and it was really calling my name. This collection features light colors, each in one tonal shade, with sections that are almost white and others that are highly saturated, with some extra speckles to top it all. They are simple and unique, less of a statement than the Signature colorways, but more versatile, and definitely easy to knit and wear.

The Tonal colorways are more basic but I have a few words to say about them too. Lauren has a nice catalogue of these colorways to be used alone or combined with her variegated yarns. They are very well dyed with subtle highlights, just what you expect from a good tonal yarn. I could knit a whole sweater using Angry Rhino or Blue Suede Shoes, but they are just too perfect to enhance the Signature colorways so don’t miss out on the fun of pairing them!

Lolo Did It’s yarns inspired me to create two of my own favorite knitting patterns, and I’m sure they’ll inspire me new ideas in the future. The shawls I made with her yarns are instant classics for me, and I wear them very often. This is my two Cupcake Shawls (because I couldn’t knit just one!) and my just released Majestic Shawl.

Make sure to visit Lolo Did It website to discover or rediscover these amazing yarns! And if you wonder what to knit with them, take a look at my shawl patterns, most of them will work beautifully in Lauren’s yarns.
