When I heard that Knit Picks introduced a new yarn blend with yak, I was instantly curious to try it! Yakish, a beautiful sport weight yarn, combines baby alpaca, superwash merino wool, and yak, creating a delightful mix of softness and warmth. What really drew me in was the palette of muted, earthy colors—just my style.
Yakish is a 2-ply sport weight yarn with 55% baby alpaca, 35% superwash merino wool, and 10% yak. This combination makes it lightweight, breathable, and incredibly cozy, perfect for everything from lightweight sweaters and shawls to cozy winter accessories.
Yak is such a unique fiber, and I believe it deserves more recognition. Known for its warmth and durability, yak yarn also surprises with its breathability and softness. The animals’ winter coats are built to trap heat and keep them warm in the harshest conditions, and that same thermal-regulating property is present in your finished projects. Because yak yarn is also breathable, it’s a great choice for warmer-season garments like summer tops as well.
