Things to know before starting
→ Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) – This is a mystery project! One clue per week for six weeks, with the design revealed as you go!
→ Construction and techniques – The shawl has a unique construction, combining lace, garter stitch, and fading effects. Some sections are worked in the round, some sections are worked flat.
→ Yarn requirements – You’ll need three colors of fingering weight yarn, approximately 400 yards / 365 meters per color. For a smooth fade, choose colors that blend well into one another. Speckled or variegated yarns are great for creating a soft gradient, while tonal colors help highlight the lace. The key is to find the right balance between the two: the first color (C1), which is used mainly for lace, should be more subtle, while the other two can be bolder as long as the lace still shows well.
→ Skill level and techniques – This project is suited for intermediate knitters who enjoy a variety of techniques. You’ll work basic lace stitches on right-side rows, color stripes, optional bobbles, knit/purl textures, and garter stitch. The shawl is knit partly in the round and partly flat, and you’ll also need to put stitches on hold and pick up stitches.
